Potential Violence in Jakarta

Several Indonesian political and dissident groups may try lo draw international attention to their causes during ihc meetings.

Supporters of Megawati Sukarnoputri, the daughter of former President Sukarno, have staged numerous protests since last month's government-engineered ouster of their leader as head of the opposition Indonesia Democratic Partyer loyalists, who slill occupy party headquarters in Jakarta,emonstration there on Saturday. They are defying calls by the miliury to turn the building over to the new government-backed PDI leadership. Press reports say that the Army is considering direct intervention to end the crisis.
