POLAND: Planned Increase in Westeri. imports
Warsaw has decided to increase imports froe the West in the second quarter byercent over previously planned levels. Polandrade surplus in the first quarter to make some payments on its debt and earlier had planned, to0 million surplus in thaquarter.'
Commenti The increase in imports would bring trade with the West into balance and would case severe shortages of industrial materials and spare parts. The so shortages have hampered oconomic recovery and have helped idleercent of the country's manufacturing capacity. The decision toard currency trade surplus, however, will make it difficult for Poland tp make any payments on its massive debt obligations.
