GT locomotivesarge amount of powerelatively small space* and are able to run on low-grade, low-cost fuel oil. The Soviets believe their GT locomotive willoefficient of efficiencyercent or higheromparedercent for steamercent for dlesel. While theof efficiency is higher for diesels, GT locomotives are able to burn much cheaper fuel than diesel locomotives.
The turbine locomotive Is the only locomotive stillby tho West from shipment to the Sino-Soviet Bloc.
5 the Kharkov Diesel Locomotive Building Factory, the Kolomna Locomotive Building Factory and the Voroshilovgrad Locomotive Building Factory, all three subordinate to the Ministry of Transport Machine Building, have been reported working on the developmentoviet GT locomotive. According to the Sixth Five Year Plan draft the USSRo create gas turbineuring the. 3/ Kharkovwas engaged in drawing plansT locomotive ln/ but, as far as can be determined, the plant has not been lTnked with the development of GT locomotives since then. Voroshilovgrad, also engaged by5 lnT locomotive, nnounced in December that it would switch to dlesol and GT locomotive production during the Sixth FYP. 6/ inolomna reported that it would begin productionT locomotivep. capacity/ With the Moscow Higher Technical Institute imenl Bauman, Kolomna has workedechnical designp. GT locomotive. 8/ The plans for this locomotive were approved by the Technical Councils of the Ministry of Transport Machine Building and the Ministry of Railroads (MPS) in March or/ Mass production of GT locomotives is scheduled for the endSixth Five Year Plan.
Although the USSR Is behind. in the production of GT lt is possible that the Soviets could surpass. in GT locomotive production after the end of the present FYP.
5 For example,Tp. can be placedingle unitength4 m. and willeightiesel locomotive with the same horsepower would be in two sectionsength4 m.eight ofons.
