Newsgroups line:
comp.bbs.falken The Falken BBS from Info*Share, Inc.

CHARTER

comp.bbs.falken (unmoderated) will be a newsgroup for the general
discussion of Falken BBS matters. Discussion topics would thus include
the use, availability, installation, operation, networking, porting and
configuration of Falken BBS on all platforms for which it is available,
including but not limited to MS-DOS.

BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE:

The Falken BBS program was written for MSDOS in late 1987 by
Herb Rose of Info*Share, Inc. It started as a 16 line BBS program
providing an internal multitasker (C-Switch) without the need
for DeskView, Windows, or OS/2.

Falken BBS is marketed under the shareware concept (try-before-you-buy).
A demo 2 line version is available for trying. Falken has a very
powerful Teleconference with features similar to TBBS UltraChat and
MajorBBS's, global user commands, a nice message base, file area
with (Xmodem, Zmodem and Ymodem), and other features standard on
most BBS's. The modularity of the Falken C-API makes adding Falken
modules easy and very powerful. All multitasking, port I/O and
communication between users is done by Falken. Because of this
easy C programmers' interface, there are lots of powerful add-on modules
at minimal cost or FreeWare available. The latest modules include FidoNET,
QWK, CD ROM Offline Requester, Account Utilities, Western Teleconference,
some very nice strategy games, D&D games, and matchmaking.

The Falken Demo BBS is available at (703) 749-2889/2890 where Info*Share
currently handles support questions. The Demo version of Falken BBS is in
the SimTel repository (oak.oakland.edu under SimTel/msdos/falken). Falken
currently support 32 lines on one PC, and future versions are said to have
support for 64 lines.

This comp.bbs.falken newsgroup would target those users who want Falken
specific information. Info*Share would be able to provide easy, cheap,
quality and faster support with one newsgroup devoted to Falken. Plus
us Falken sysops and developers would have easy access to technical experts.

Many of these people are either highly experienced users or have actively
participated in the authoring, maintenance, enhancement, or porting of
Falken code, so a significant base of "technical experts" exists online
to assist those newly involved with the software.

NOTE:

After this proposal appears on Usenet, it will be forwarded on to
numerous Falken BBSes, both independent and networked. Some of the
original forwarding will be done by the proponent (wnbell@sed.csc.com)
but it may be forwarded beyond those sites by others.
