Lost Inca city complex, probably built in the 15th century; perched on a mountainside about 7,550 feet above sea level; it's purpose and history are shrouded in mystery; the Inca built their living quarters, temples and workshops out of large stones so precisely hewn that they were able to do without mortar; the transport of the huge stones was another astonishing achievement; found by American adventurer Hiram Bingham (probably the original Indiana Jones) in 1911.

Building started 1340 to house the councillors who governed Venice; the Doge's Palace was a place for grand receptions and ceremonies, with paintings by the great Venetian masters, set in elaborate guilded frames; construction continued until the 17th century; the facade is characterized by the contrast between the two lower floors--with delicate columns and keel arches broken with tracery--and the upper floor--completely covered with lancet windows set in red and white marble.
