Jesse James Report Abuse
The most famous outlaw of the Old West, James began his career as a Confederate guerrilla fighter before turning to bank robbery. James eluded authorities for 16 years, amassing a fortune that would be worth millions in today's money and acquiring a Robin Hood reputation for the help he gave to the poor South.

George Cassidy Report Abuse
George "Butch" Cassidy is somewhat of an anomaly among the outlaws of the American West. He attained fame as a profilic bank robber and generally skilled thief yet he was never accused of murder and was never considered a killer like so many other outlaws. The scant evidence of his crimes and life only add to his mystique.

John Dillinger Report Abuse
The most notorious bank robber of all time, Dillinger's name has become synonymous with crime. His good looks, charm, and the fact that he robbed banks during the Great Depression when many Americans saw the banking system as the enemy led the country to romanticize his crimes and he attained fame as a kind of folk hero or anti-establishment rebel.

George "Machine Gun" Kelly Report Abuse
Perhaps best known for giving the FBI their nickname of "G-Men", Kelly was part of the Midwest Crime Wave that terrorized the country in the 1930s. Like his contemporaries John Dillinger and Pretty Boy Floyd, Kelly attained cult status as a lawless rebel for his reckless bank robbing and kidnapping sprees. He died of a massive heart attack in Leavenworth prison at the age of 54.
