A very famous and well known name in America, booth is credited with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, one of America's most respected Presidents. Booth was a known Confederate spy and in his time was considered a handsome, talented actor who achieved a certain degree of fame in that profession before falling on hard times.

His name is not remembered as much as some of the others on this list, but there's no denying the historical importance of his crime. Known to history as "The Shot Heard Round The World" his assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand sparked World War I and thus was a major catalyst for the global upheaval that was to follow. Perhaps no other assassination led to so much bloodshed.

The assassin of Julius Caesar, Brutus may be the most famous assassin in history. Caesar's admonition of "Et tu, Brute?" remains the most famous dying words spoken to an assassin ever and Shakespeare helped immortalize the murder in his play Julius Caesar.

Its strange to out this man so high on the list when so many people believe he wasn't an assassin at all. Despite the mystery that surrounds the murder of JFK, or perhaps because of it, Oswald's name is synonymous with assassination and he reamins the most famous accused assassin in American history.
