RE: The tariff classification of a cardigan for girls’ wear from China

Dear Ms. Mugrage:

In your letter dated May 4, 2006 you requested a classification ruling.

Submitted style 2R0845, manufactured from light-weight, knitted fabric of 100% cotton that does not measure more than nine stitches per two centimeters, is a long-sleeved, hooded, button-front garment.

The submitted garment and its accompanying component parts are being retained by this office for reference purposes.

The applicable subheading for this style will be 6110.20.2079, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for sweatersknittedof cotton, other, other, other, girls’, other. The duty rate will be 16.5 per cent ad valorem.

The cardigan falls within textile category designation 339. Quota and visa status are the result of international agreements that are subject to frequent renegotiations and changes.
