Dear Ms. Williams:

In your letter dated March 31, 2006, you requested a classification ruling. Your sample is being returned as requested.

The outer surface of the fabric measures fewer than 9 stitches per 2 centimeters in the horizontal direction. The garment reaches the waist and features a modified shawl collar, short sleeves, and a full front opening with no means of closure.

The applicable subheading for the sweater will be 6110.20.2020, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for sweaters, crocheted: of cotton: other: sweaters: women’s. The duty rate will be 16.5% ad valorem.

Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/.
