RE: The tariff classification of mesh laundry bags from Mexico and China

Dear Ms. Mullineaux:

In your letter dated March 10, 2006, you requested a tariff classification ruling on behalf of your client, the Bob Barker Company, Inc., of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina.

The submitted samples are identified as laundry bags. You indicate that they are constructed of 100% polyester mesh. The bags measure approximately 15”W x 20”H and 17¾”W x 25”H. The larger bag features a zipper across its top and the smaller one features a tie-string. A textile fabric ID tag is attached to the exteriors of the items.

According to the importer’s website (www.bobbarker.com) these are institutional laundry bags, not meant for travel.

The applicable subheading for the mesh laundry bags will be 6307.90.9889, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for other made up textile articles, other. The rate of duty will be 7 percent ad valorem.

The sample will be returned as requested.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
