RE: The tariff classification of an automotive Plastic Socket Cover from Japan

Dear Mr. Dooley:

In your letter dated May 6, 2005 you requested a tariff classification ruling on behalf of your client Toyota Tsusho America, Inc.

You submitted a blueprint copy of an automotive Plastic Socket Cover – TTA Part Number 85535-34030. You state that this cover is used to protect a 12-volt female electrical power outlet in automobiles. It does not have any electrical system function.

The applicable subheading for the Plastic Socket Cover will be 8708.29.5060, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of headings 8701 to 8705: Other parts and accessories of bodies (including cabs): Other: OtherOther. The rate of duty will be 2.5% ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
