RE: The tariff classification of a "Target Wall" from Taiwan.

Dear Mr. Reynolds:

In your letter dated June 3, 1996, you requested a tariff classification ruling on behalf of Select Service & Supply Co., Inc.

The merchandise consists of a woven nylon mat measuring approximately 81/2 feet by 51/2 feet. When hung in a vertical position, a ball can be kicked through any one of a number of holes striking a backdrop flap. These flaps covering the various size holes are of different colors and have been marked with various numbers indicating the points scored when a kicked ball passes through a particular hole. It is said that this "Target Wall" is used for developing ball kicking skills.

The applicable subheading for the "Target Wall" nylon mat will be 9506.99.6080, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for "Articles and equipment for general physical exercise, gymnastics, athletics, other sports or outdoor games...: Other: Other. The rate of duty will be 4.4 percent.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Tom McKenna at 212-466-5475.
