RE: The tariff classification of four styles of wrestling knee pads from Taiwan.

Dear Mr. Richardson:

In your letter dated October 27, 1995, you requested a tariff classification ruling, on behalf of ASICS Tiger, your client.

You are requesting the tariff classification of four items which represent four different styles of wrestling knee pads. The styles are numbered ZD520, ZD521, ZD11, and ZD111. All four styles of knee pads feature a neoprene outer shell. In addition, styles ZD520 and ZD521 have an inner cotton liner for moisture absorption. Styles ZD111 and ZD521 have an ASICS GEL cushioning system for shock absorption. Style ZD11 has neither a cotton liner or the ASICS GEL cushioning system, but it features a durable, double stitched pad for enhanced cushioning. These knee pads are being marketed as wrestling knee pads by the importer.

The applicable subheading for the wrestling knee pads will be 9506.99.6080, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for "Articles and equipment for general physical exercise, gymnastics, athletics...parts and accessories thereof (con.): Other (con.): Other (con.): Other". The rate of duty will be 4.5 percent, ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Section 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Thomas A. McKenna at 212-466-5475.

Sincerely,

Roger J. Silvestri
