RE: The tariff classification of plastic hooks from Taiwan.

Dear Mr. Froh:

In your letter dated August 30, 1995, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The hooks (Style Numbers 901, 902, 903 and 905) are composed of plastics. The hooks are designed to be screwed onto a wall. The hooks can be used to hold articles such as towels or clothing.

You also requested a ruling on Style Number 904. The picture you provided is not clear, but it appears that this hook is made of both metal and plastic. Before we can issue a ruling for such a hook, we would need a sample. Should you request a ruling for this item, be sure to indicate the type of metal.

The applicable subheading for the plastic hooks will be 3925.90.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for builders' ware of plastics, not elsewhere specified or included: other. The rate of duty will be 5.3 percent ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Section 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Joan Mazzola at 212-466-5580.
