Whirlpool 22 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Energy Star Qualified Refrigerator ED2KVEXVL

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

While transitioning my kitchen gradually from black appliances to stainless steel, I find the Whirlpool ED2KVEXVL in the Satina finish has struck the perfect balance. The stainless steel look on the front contrasts nicely with the black handle and sides, bringing together all of my appliances. This is one of Whirlpool's smaller models, but I find it just right for my family of three. We cook at home every day and put this side-by-side to good use with a well stocked freezer and comfortably packed refrigerator. However, even when entertaining a crowd, I always seem to find the space I need. As with most side-by-sides, the freezer is a bit narrow, but sufficient for the average American family. It's wide enough to fit a frozen pizza lying flat on the top shelf and offers drawers deep enough to house a 25 lbs. frozen turkey. Whirlpool designers made good use of the limited space with well placed shelves, drawers, and door pockets. The refrigerator door shelves are adjustable and deep, making it possible to have three drinks shelves as well as the egg storage up top. The replacement water filters are easy to find in stores and not overly priced like other brands. They are also very easy to change yourself. The satina finish is a nice feature with small children in the house as it doesn't show any finger prints or smudges. My one complaint with this refrigerator is with temperature control. Items at the very back of the shelves tend to freeze, even when the refrigerator is tuned to the recommended setting. This makes it difficult to thaw meats in the refrigerator. Overall, the Whirlpool was the most competitive on price and features for its size. If you are looking for a quality appliance in a beautiful finish for an affordable price, the Whirlpool ED2KVEXVL is a good option.
