The Whirlpool 18 cu. ft. refrigerator seemed like the ideal fridge for my wife and I. We're a young couple and at the time we didn't need a big fridge, so a smaller less expensive model seemed perfect. We had our ups and downs with this fridge, to say the least.

At first glance, this Whirlpool fridge is pretty standard. you'll get a lot of remarks about how small it is. I'm only 5'10" and I can easily see over the top of it. It's white-on-white and visually there's nothing wrong or particularly exciting about it. Everything within functions fine: the shelves and drawers are sturdy (though the drawers aren't on rollers) and remove easily for cleaning, and the freezer is frost-free as promised.

Unfortunately,we soon found out that this fridge is not without it's problems. One morning I woke up to find that the fridge was was no longer keeping things cool. It was room temperature within the unit and everything in the freezer had thawed. This was after only having the unit for about 2 weeks. Whirlpool sent out a repair man to fix it - the condenser had gone bad. He soldered on a new one and left. Whirlpool actually sent me a check to cover the spoiled food so that was nice. A week later, the same thing happened all over again and I got another check for the spoiled food. Whirlpool just told me to return the fridge and get a new one, no questions asked. I did so, but what a hassle!

We haven't had any more problems with this fridge, but the nightmare of dealing with the first one has stuck with me. You'd think that after spending $400 on a new appliance you wouldn't have to worry about such things. 3 out of 5 stars.
