The Unitec UNI007B sandblaster gun is a power tool like no other one. Some describe it as something out of Star Wars, but we reckon it is just an efficient little machine that does what it has been designed to do.
Imagine a tool that is able to literally blast sand onto a surface (like glass) and change the surface effect. Of course you will also have to define the area where you blast, so it isn't simply a mechanical function but one that is also creative. That is basically what this little machine can do. But it isn't only a creative machine because you can also use it to get rid of rust and other defects on various structural materials.
The Unitec UNI007B is a gravity-fed tool which is probably why it works so well. All you have to do is connect a single air line and then off you go. I guess that qualifies it as an air tool too. You don't need any tanks or supply lines to ensure success either. And it works - really well.
To date we've only used this sandblast gun to do a very simple series of sandblasting jobs on glass panels. These are experimental and purely design orientated, so the results haven't been really important. But so far so good and we are good to go further. We feel that there is a lot more that we will be able to achieve over time. But we also recognize that it is vital to spend time experimenting and doing a variety of DIY projects before trying to become a pro supplier.
From what we can see so far, this particular sand blasting machine is really fast and because it incorporates material control valve meters that are adjustable, we have been able to measure the sand flow reasonably accurately. According to the manual, gravity forces the particles into a hardened steel mixing chamber and that's where it all happens.
This particular gun, which is obviously part of the sand blasting kit, has a gravity feed adjustable ceramic nozzle that accommodates a very specific sand flow system. It also has an operating pressure of between 60 and 125 psi and a working pressure of between 100 and 125 psi. Its air consumption is 12 CFM-125 psi.
The handle of the gun is multi-ribbed and it is really easy to hold and operate. For a small tool, it is incredibly powerful. The price is competitive.
