The Cannon PC-430 Personal Letter/Legal Copier

Rating: 3 out of 5
  • Currently 3.0/5.0

The Cannon PC-430 Personal Letter/Legal Copier is a desktop copier that was billed as having everything needed for a home business person. And it's true for the most part. The Cannon PC-430 can copy both legal size and standard letter sized documents. It has a 50 sheet paper capacity and a multi-stack tray paper feeding system and can copy a letter in 22 seconds, tops, which is plenty fast when you are only printing off one or two documents at a time. In fact, the Cannon PC-430 only allows for up to nine multiples of any one document, so if you need a machine that can make lots of multiple copies, this is not a good choice for you.

The Cannon PC-430 has an automatic shut-off feature as well as a manual exposure control panel. It has a moving copyboard and uses electrostatic transfer and does a fine piece of copying in that the documents are crystal clear, but copying is all it does, and I have found at 15.88" in length that the Cannon PC-430 takes up a good bit of desk space. It's weight at 18.9 pounds does ensure that it stays put during the copying process, but for its price, $695.00, I could have gotten a machine that was a copier, fax machine AND printer and had it all in the same space instead of having to find room for this copier plus the other machines as well.

Also the toner, which is recommended from the manufacturer, is expensive, prohibitively so, and is used up quite quickly, which makes the Cannon PC-430 an expensive machine to operate, especially for a small business like mine. So I would recommend that unless you are an executive in need of a personal copier, and you have the space to put it and the money to keep it supplied, that for home or small business use you select a different copier.
