First of all, keep in mind that I am not an audiophile. My husband and I actually bought these headphones with some rewards points we'd earned. We decided to purchase something that we would normally not spend this kind of money on and after reading reviews of these headphones, they were an easy choice.
With all that said - these are easily the best headphones I've ever used. I wasn't sure that the sound quality would be that much better than the $50 headphones I'm used to, but it was really outstanding. I've listened to various types of music with these and I'd say that the most noticeably clear music on these is classical music. I can actually hear the different instruments very separately from one another and it is almost overwhelming how much I feel like I'm in the same room with the orchestra. There is sometimes a little bit of white noise in the background but it's not enough to be bothersome.
Of course, the downside to these is the price. Is the sound extremely good? Yes, it is. But at the time that we chose these from the rewards catalog, the price for these headphones was around $600. I would not say that they're more than 10x as good as the headphones we'd been using.
My other complaint is that they're not that comfortable. The band across the top of them is very tight and it feels a bit like they're squishing your head. It's not so uncomfortable that I can't wear them but I don't typically wear them for more than a half an hour at a time. If I were to need headphones to wear for hours, I'm not sure that these would be a good fit.
