The Proctor Silex Coffee Maker is a basic, no frill, coffee maker and does its job very well. The main appeal for purchasing this particular coffee maker is the filter basket. Rather than paying for paper coffee filters, the coffee maker has a filtered basket that you pour your measured coffee into. When you're through drinking coffee for the day, both the basket and the carafe can go into the dishwasher. It's that simple.

The coffee maker can make up to 12 cups of coffee. A nice feature is the auto pause and serve button. It lets you remove the carafe, pour a cup of coffee, and not have coffee dripping and sizzling on the burner. Thus, the coffee maker tends to stay clean. If the burner has to be cleaned, it's a nonstick plate, so cleaning is easy. Compared to other coffee makers, this one does not tend to have an odor. In the past, I've had to run vinegar through the cycle to remove odor and stains. There has not been a need to use vinegar with this particular model.

The 43531K is an inexpensive coffee maker, selling for under $30. It does not have the features like more expensive coffee makers have, such as auto on/off, dial a brew, etc. But, it does make a great cup of coffee. There's an indicator light to let you know that the coffee maker is on. If you tend to be someone who doesn't remember to turn off the coffee maker, then this might not be the right model for you. The carafe is lightweight and easy to pour. Caution should be exercised to ensure you don't bump it on a hard surface.

What was purchased to be a temporary fix until a "better" coffee maker could be purchased, has found permanent residence at our home.
