Who ever originated the name Weed Whacker had obviously felt the frustration over how fast the weeds would grow in relation to the growth of the desired plants. Using a hoe or a shovel to eliminate the unwanted weeds required a strong back and a weak mind. Hence, the Weed Eater, string trimmer, entered our slaves.

I have purchased many versions of weed eaters with a variety of features over the years but the Poulan SST25 Feather Lite 25cc Weed Eater has become my favorite. Living in the forest means the possibility of an electric weed eater was out of the question as I do not have an extension cord long enough to cover five acres. It is truly lightweight but is not underpowered. Now I would not recommend it for large lots or heavy weeds it is a workhorse for typical weed removal.

It is so light that it does not require the over the shoulder harness of its larger counterparts which can lead to muscle strain. It is particularly handy for seniors who love to keep a beautiful yard and garden. I was surprised at how easily it cut through milkweed although it does throw the milkweed milk all over including my safety glasses. I would suggest always wearing eye protection when using the Weed Eater as it does throw particles of weeds.

The Weed Eater weighs only and has a comfortable handle that is adjustable to the users height and needs. It has 25cc motor, which may seem small, but it is a workhorse, and is built by the Poulan Company. With addition of the small plastic bulb to prime the engine, it makes starting a fairly simple task. Just push the plastic bulb a few times, set the choke, pull the trigger, pull the recoil starter rope and you are ready to go to work.

It comes with a tap and go cord reel to advance the cutting string while working that works much better than previous models I have owned. I paid around $80.00 as I purchased it during the peak season when it became obvious I needed it.

One of the cautions I would offer is that the user may take on weeds that overtax the motor and cutting cord. These type of weeds need that capabilities of one of the heavier models that are offered by Poulan.
