Pentax K7

Rating: 5 out of 5
  • Currently 5.0/5.0

The K7 was designed for rough use and offers one of the most compact designs in its class with a magnesium alloy body which allows for rough travel through various types of terrain, regardless of weather, without sacrificing picture quality. Along with staunch ruggedness the K7 maintains a beautiful 3 inch LCD screen for quick picture or movie viewing. The LCD screen has a 921,000 dot resolution which is perfect for detailed image or movie capture and review. Photos are presented in a clear high detailed format.

The K7 from Pentax is equipped with the PRIME II image processing engine. This allows the K7 not only to shoot HD video, but hit 5.2 fps shooting with the PRIME II image processing engine. The PRIME II picks up light and allows for very fast and precise focusing enabling the K7 to be ideal of sporting events or any fast action situation as well as wildlife photography.

The PRIME II image processing engine is enabled by the incredible 1/8000 second shutter speed. The K7 also slows the shutter speed well. This allows of a high degree of light transfer for more detailed photography, such as portraits, or any controlled light environment.

The K7 is incredible when it comes to ease of use. One of the worries for many amateur photographers is having a very sensitive camera, where the shots come out blurry because of a lack of knowledge on many sensitive systems. The K7 is very quick and simple to adjust. This makes it an amazing photography system for a wide variety of users. Additionally, the Pentax shake reduction system used on the K7 is amazing, allowing for longer range close ups without a bi-pod than many other medium format cameras.

The battery life of the K7 is excellent as well, as it was one of the main design points that Pentax focused on. For most people, the battery will last several days of consistent shooting. The adaptability of the Pentax line is also prevalent on the K7, with a wide range of accessories available.

This is all wrapped in a package available for around $850 new for a little shopping. The MSRP is around $1,200. The price may appear to be intimidating, but with all of the features available, as well as the incredible quality and durability of the product, it is a very solid investment for a camera which is likely to be top of the line for a long time to come.
