The Oreck AIR12GU Air Purifier isn't the least expensive model available. It has an MSRP of $399.95. There's a larger unit that costs about $600, but it doesn't cover that much more area, so I went with the AIR12GU instead. It will re-circulate the air twice in an hour for a room that is approximately 12' x 18'.
My allergies have gotten worse in the last year and a half since I moved, and my doctor suggested purchasing an air purifier for my bedroom. He wasn't any help on brands, so I picked the Oreck on my own. Since I was familiar with the name, I bought it even though it cost more than most other air purifiers I saw.
Manufacturers will tell you a great many things about how their units will kill viruses and germs, but I have no way of knowing if this one does that or not. The only thing I'm really sure about is how it helps my sinuses. I wake up in the morning without the congestion I use to have, and my quality of sleep has improved, too.
I like the ease of moving the air purifier with me from one room to another. It's not that heavy so I can put it in the den if I'm going to be in that room for a while. I have even used it in the kitchen to get rid of odors after meal preparation.
I haven't used any of the cheaper brands in the past, so I can't tell if they are very good, but this one works fine and it is so quiet that I hardly know it is on. I haven't noticed any big difference in my electric bill since I've been running it, even thought it stays on most of the time.
I give the Oreck AIR12GU a perfect five stars as it has performed as promised and provided relief for my sinus and allergy problems.
