The Minelab X-Terra 505 is a high performance mid range metal detector. This metal detector is well equipped even for the avid treasure hunter, it has many of the features that the professional treasure hunters want in there devices. It is easy to understand and to operate, so anybody can use it.
The Minelab X-Terra 505 is a great general metal detector, it can be used to find a variety items at various depths, for the occasional user it is the absolute top of the line metal detector. A professional might be able to find a better equipped metal detector but they will have to pay a lot more.
The frequency coils on this model are interchangeable with all 7 X-Terra coils so you can match the frequency with what you are searching for, from coins to large objects deeper in the earth. With all of the different coils available you can search for anything you want or think you will find in the area you are looking. I was using this in an area we suspected was a battlefield in the civil war and we searched for copper and brass, we found some metal buttons off a confederate officers coat.
You can set the adjustments so you only pick up certain metals i.e. copper, silver and other precious metals. The controls and coils on the Minelab X-terrs allow you to adjust to find the specific types of metals you want. Everybody has probably heard about the recent find in England, where a man was using a metal detector and found 320,000 Roman coins, they figure the value at around 5,000,000.00. Now I am not saying you will find a treasure but sometimes the little things you find give you more pleasure.
The instruction manual on this is very easy to understand. It is very complete and written to be understood by the novice in using a metal detector. It gives detailed instruction on settings and which coils are needed for what depths and what metals.
While this is a very good metal detector and well worth the money, my advice would be to buy one a little less expensive for your first experiences with metal detecting. As I said this is one of the best all around metal detectors I have ever used. I would recommend it more for the experienced user but if you have the money to spend and are sure this is what you want to do with your spare time, by all means get the best detector you can, and the Minelab X-Terra is the best.
