The KitchenAid KSB580NK 5-speed blender is useful for a wide variety of tasks. It will puree fruit and vegetables for soups or baby food, and is strong and powerful enough to crush ice for smoothies and cocktails. I have found this machine to be durable and reliable, having no problems cutting through ice and frozen vegetables.

The generous 56oz jug, is shatter proof, dishwasher safe and detachable for serving. With this model, the jar is lighter than the older version, which means children can be encouraged to get involved in their food preparation. As it is in one piece (the blade is in the base of the jug), the machine is much easier to clean than multi-part models. The material of the jug is polycarbonate, which is lighter and after than glass. It is however, more prone to scratches, so make sure you only use plastic utensils in it.

The control panel is wipe-clean, so there will be no tiny bits of crumbs getting lodged around the buttons. This is a much more sleek and hygienic design. The panel is logical and straightforward to use, once you have checked the instructions. This blender features 'Intelli-Speed' control, which means that it automatically adjusts the blade speed depending on what it is blending. For instance, thinner mixtures will not require the motor power that ice will. Sensors react to the pressure on the blades, and adjust the blade speed accordingly. This saves energy, and also means your food is blended to the right consistency.

Constructed with metal and a polycarbonate base, this machine is sturdy and can withstand heavy use. The non-slip base ensures it stays in one place whilst in use. It is a loud blender, but then I don't know of any that are quiet, and it is only used for short periods of time.

This is a fairly expensive model compared to others you could buy, but its power and extra features make it worth the investment. The one-piece jar and wipe-clean pad, will save you a lot of cleaning time. The powerful motor will make light work of both fresh and frozen food, which is just so convenient. As the jug has such a large capacity, it allows you to make bigger batches, cutting down on your preparation time. It is clear that a smaller, less powerful machine would make everything take that bit longer to do.
