Kenmore Computerized Sewing Machine 215 stitch
My daughter purchased this sewing machine for me earlier in 2010 when my 22 year old Kenmore no frills machine finally conked out. This machine is a really good, medium priced product that will definitely complete all the basic functions a home sewer wants but also has some added features. The retail price for this machine is around $450 dollars. I am not sure how much she paid as it was a gift, so I had to look up the manufacturer's price.
One of the nicest features on this machine that I did not have before was the LCD screen that is push button where I can select different stitches and functions at the touch of one finger. This is a great feature. There are 215 built in stitches one can choose from, and these stitches are ones that most home sewers will use frequently and really appreciate having in this machine. In addition there are several different automatic button holes to choose from and they basically make themselves. My ancient sewing machine had a bobbin box that was under the machine, very tricky at times to work with. This new machine has a front drop in bobbin with a clean cover plate that allows me to see when the bobbin thread is getting low.
As any home sewer can attest to, one of the most difficult things is to remember to lower your needle when you stop sewing so that it stays in the same spot when you continue on. With this machine, a sewer doesn't have to remember to do this as the needle stops in the down position automatically. This too is a nice feature. If you are a home quilter, there are built in stitches for you that can mimic the hand stitches of the past, including the popular blanket stitch which comes out looking like one had spent a lot of time hand stitching.
Some basic feet are included with this machine, such as; pins tuck foot, zig zag foot, zipper foot and a cording foot. In addition to these feet, a lint brush, small container of sewing oil, screwdriver and bobbins are also included to get you started. More accessories such as specialty feet can be purchased through Sears, in the store or online and from other retailers as well. Sometimes the sewer can purchase feet from other sewing machine dealers, but you really need to make sure these feet are compatible with your Kenmore machine.
