This Excalibur II 1000 is the ideal coin and treasure metal detector. Utilizing the BBS17 frequency and ground rejecting technology that only MInelab has you won't have issues with false signals. Our favorite feature of this metal detector is the amphibious qualities able to move from land to beach to water without any new adjustments or add on. We have used this for diving both shallow and deep waters of the Caribbean. This model of the Excaliber can be used effectively to depths of 200ft. The Excalibur II has improved signal response and enhanced performance in the salt water. We found it very easy to use and maneuver under water, we shortened the shaft for underwater use. In the deeper depths the high visibility fluorescent body increased our control and visibility of the machine and the area it was detecting. We have used the Excaliber snorkeling and just beach combing as well depending what we are doing we remove or add a shaft to adjust the length. We prefer only one shaft when snorkeling and diving and when beach combing or surf detecting we prefer two. The nickel metal hydride battery pack holds a long charge; we have never had to stop metal detecting due to a battery or for that matter a problem with our detector. The discrimination, sensitivity and depth are easy to adjust. I would suggest to learn your different tones and beeps to adjust your machine accordingly. One way to learn the tones of the machine is to set up a "garden" of different metals and even different depths to practice detecting and digging as you become more experienced adjust the depth of the "bait". If you are going to do a "garden" I would suggest roping a area off and maybe even tagging where items are, not that the metal detector won't catch them but right off the bat you may not know the machine well enough. Overall this machine is a ton of fun, this is something we do as a family the kids digg for the treasure, while we mark their treasure spots.
