Herald Squire 400 Motor Home

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

I have always been something of a free spirit, but suppressed it until a very welcome windfall meant that I was able to satisfy my travel lust.* Fortunately my partner shared my longing to see something of Europe and eagerly went along with my idea to purchase a motor home.*
After ploughing through magazines and internet sites, we finally settled for a Herald Squire 400 model.* Around 9 years old it had good mileage, and was in excellent condition, almost as new.* It has everything you would require from a home on the move, and is a good size at 6 meters in length, without being a monstrosity, which can sometimes be the case.*
The lay out is straight forward with an L-shaped lounge in the rear of the vehicle and a center kitchen and bathroom.* There is a basic cassette toilet, which serves its purpose!* The sleeping area is over cab and I have to say surprisingly comfortable.* It was the one thing I thought I'd miss more than anything else, as I love my sleep, but its fair to say I probably get more kip now than before.*
It has double glazed windows, fly screens and blinds.* The awning which came with it, gives us an even more homely feel.* It is fully alarmed and has a bike rack for 2 cycles and is actually a 4 berth, so we could invite friends along, although it might be a bit too cosy!** Its 2.5 turbo diesel engine does like a drink, but I knew that from the onset, so that is just something that you have to accept if a motor home is your way forward.*
Autocruise and Swift are very good manufacturers who I also looked at and if I were buying as new I might look at one of their models, but for an outlay of just $37950 I think I got a bargain with my Herald Squire I would definitely recommend one.
