I live on a farm where I raise cattle, hogs, and some sheep. One of the best things about having your own cattle is being able to slaughter a steer occasionally for the meat. When you have the butchering done, you have to have a place to store the meat.
Last year we had to get a new freezer because the two we already had were full. Space was a situation as I already had the other freezers in the room where the new one had to go. The Frigidaire upright seemed like a better option than another chest freezer. It is sized like a refrigerator with just about the right space for a small steer to fit inside.
It made even more sense to get a freezer that can double as a refrigerator because as things are used up, I don't need as much freezer space. A simple flip of a switch and this freezer becomes a refrigerator. I don't know if this is a relatively new idea or not, but it works very well for my circumstances.
I often get more items in the kitchen refrigerator than I need. Having a spare unit to fall back on is good because I live miles from the grocery store. I often buy several containers of orange juice and other refrigerated items in bulk in order to save fuel and time going back and forth to the store. Even if I have to use the unit as a freezer some of the time, I can use it all the time one way or another.
I got my freezer for $679 at Lowes. They offered an extended warranty, but I didn't feel that it was necessary. There is very little maintenance to this freezer because it is frost-free. It is also an Energy Star unit so the electric bill doesn't go up a great deal when it is plugged in for use. I have been very pleased with this appliance.
