Epson Perfection v600 Photo Color Scanner

We bought this scanner when my parents died and left us a big box full of old photos and slides in a pretty bad shape. We knew that we had to digitize them as soon as possible if we wanted to preserve them, and since the price was an issue, we opted for Epson Perfection v600.

This scanner comes with special holders for 35mm film and mounted slides, as well as 6 x 22 cm medium-format film, so scanning slides was made easy for us. It has 6400 x 9600 dpi resolution, what is great improvement from what I was using earlier. The quality of scanned images was extraordinary, even when printed enlarged.

There is a number of cool features and tools that came with the scanner. For example, the new technology Digital Ice removes scratches from old photos and hides creases and dust. It even restores faded colors.

This scanner does more than just photos. It does excellent job with any type of document, like invoices and receipts, and even 3D objects. Another cool feature is the included Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, which enables you to convert scanned documents into a text document

You can instantly scan, copy, scan-to-email and create PDFs of any type of document, but the most amazing feature of this scanner is the quality of scanned photos, which can be reproduced up to 17" x 22" with superb quality. The V600 Photo features a 48-bit depth, which is responsible for superb colors.

The scanner comes with Scanner software CD, as well as with Adobe Photoshop Elements DVD. I found that the Digital Ice is just not up to the tricks of Photoshop when it comes to restoring photos.

It seems like a luxury to pay $250 for a scanner just to scan some old photos, but the results were excellent and we managed to preserve the history of our family. Small price to pay.
