A rotary tool is probably one of the most useful appliances that any household could possess. This is especially true of the Dremel 4000-6/50 Rotary Tool Kit. Although craftsmen and artists often use this tool for their creative work, it makes just as much sense as an all-round tool. This rotary tool probably represents the top of the line product of this kind from Dremel and will generally sell for about $150.00 depending on where it is purchased.

The Dremel 4000 can make life much easier by handling routine household tasks much more quickly than would be possible with hand tools. While it is not recommended for driving screws on account of its high speed, it can perform a multitude of jobs for the homeowner. As it comes with 6 attachments including one that will allow the user to sharpen their lawnmower blades, and other tools used in the garden.

One that will come in very handy for those who might find this tool a bit heavy is the flex shaft attachment. This allows the user to rest the tool itself on the table while using the flex shaft (with appropriate accessory) to perform the needed task. The flex shaft attachment is very good for fine work associated with craft or art, and will allow good control and detailing. It is often advisable to secure the piece of art that is being worked on in a vice - this will give the Dremel 4000 user a greater degree of control, and help to prevent accidental injuries.

If the accessories were purchased separately, the price of the tool kit would be at least $60.00 more than the price of the complete kit. As 50 different accessories come with the Dremel 4000-6/50, it can be used for everything from sanding and buffing. The drill bits are especially useful for cutting quickly into nearly any substance. However, it is advisable to make sure that the bits are new, as once they become worn down, it will be harder and harder to get them to perform as they should. Trying to force a worn bit into wood will only put unnecessary strain upon the motor.

The Dremel 4000 is a variable speed rotary tool, and operates at a range of 5,000 to 35,000 RPM. There is actually better control and smoother operation at the higher speeds, as there can sometimes be a bit of jerking at the slower ones. The speed can be adjusted to whatever is desired on the slide, and the on/off switch is positioned so that it will not get in the way while working. There is no 'wrong' way to hold the Dremel tool, it has been designed so that all ways of holding it are comfortable.

Released in 2009, the Dremel 4000-6/50 has proven itself to be a valuable and almost indispensable tool. The very versatility of the attachments and accessories guarantees that it will not remain idle in its carrying case for long. The tool kit comes with a 5 year guarantee, but it is unlikely that any problems will arise during this time, and for a long time afterwards. Dremel tools are made to last and to work hard. Accessories from other models of Dremel tool kits will also fit the 4000, although an adaptor might be needed for some of them. This is a highly recommended tool.
