When my no-name off-brand coffee maker broke, I knew it was time to buy something better, and something with higher quality. My old coffee maker was always overflowing, sending water in the wrong places, so I knew it was time to take the big leap from no name to the biggest name. I had worked in restaurants and always seen the name Bunn, so I knew that they must make quality machines. From the moment I started using my Bunn coffee maker, I knew I had stumbled on something great.

This machine works differently than most coffee machines. There's a tank that keeps water hot all the time attached to the machine. This means that it wastes power, but it doesn't run too much so that it keeps the water hot all the time. The main advantage to the water tank is that when you want coffee you can make it fast - about nine or ten cups in three minutes or so. Since the water goes through really fast, you have to use the Bunn brand filters which are deeper and more heavy duty than other brand filters. Suprisingly they cost about the same as the regular filters - $1 per one hundred pieces.

From what I understand the coffee is brewed right at boiling - which is supposed the best temperature at which to brew. I've tried Starbucks Pike Place and Dunkin Donuts coffee, and both came out tasting just as if I purchased it at the shop. I do find, however, that because of the speed of brewing and the fact that the water moves so quickly through the grinds that I need to use one more scoop of coffee than usual. But other than that it's been a fantastic machine and a true upgrade from the last machine I had. The last machine was "born for the landfill." This machine I expect will see a lifetime of use.
