The Black and Decker Steam Advantage Iron is one of the numerous steam irons on the market and the one I chose when I made my last purchase. It does offer some features that you won't find on many of the others, but some of them are better than the others. It features an INOX stainless-steel soleplate that slides over fabric to help get out wrinkles but it actually lacks in the steam power that is needed to get the serious wrinkles out of fabrics like cotton. It also doesn't have the option of turning the steam off so it can get the wrinkles off.

One feature of the Steam Advantage iron that is really handy is the clear water tank that lets me keep track of how much water is left while I am ironing. It has what is called "Smart Steam" technology that lets it automatically produce steam at higher temperature settings. While this is a plus for some jobs, it is more of an aggravation for others. Since I can't turn the steam off, I can't use it on some fabrics that need to be ironed at a higher temperature setting. It does have an anti-drip system that prevents it from dropping water on fabric which can cause spotting but without the option of turning off the steam, that isn't always enough.

The slip-resistant rubberized heel help keep the iron in place while I'm not holding it and the 360-degree pivoting cord keeps it from getting tangled so it's easier to maneuver. The self cleaning system keeps the steam vents from getting build-up in them.

I like the fact that the iron will shut itself off after 30 seconds of not being used while it is setting in the ironing position. It takes eight minutes for it to cut off if it is resting vertically so I have plenty of time to adjust the garment I am ironing without the iron cutting off prematurely. It also gives me the peace of mind knowing that I don't have to worry about whether or not I remembered to turn if off when I finished with it.

Its ease of use is probably the best feature of the Steam Advantage iron since it is lightweight and simple to maneuver. Although I would really prefer the option for turning off the steam, it is a pretty good choice for the price. This iron is significantly cheaper than many of the other name brand steam irons with similar features. It has performed well during the time I have had it.
