I've had my B&D drill for about 8 years. Originally purchased for $40+ I saw it for $26.93 on Amazon.
I wasn't able to determine how long it has been on the market, but you can still buy one today and mine operates perfectly. Not suitable for big carpentry jobs, it's a good tool for little jobs around the house. It's a heavy-duty housing with heft, and for a woman, steadying against something stable, before pulling the trigger, is good advice. It's not a particularly handsome piece of equipment, black with red switches. This model, the 7152, is equipped with a reverse feature that comes in handy for reversing screws and backing a drill bit out of a resisting material. It has screwdriver heads and drill bits and a chuck that tightens them into the socket. Those are the features that make it a very basic tool. I bought an extension cord that stays permanently attached in the box so I don't have to hunt it every time I want to use the drill. It seems I'm always up on a ladder when I use it, so the cord is really handy. It is easy to use--for a man--but I mention again, a woman needs to find a way to steady her hand to keep the drill head in place. It won't function in tight spaces, but as long as there's elbow room, it will do its job.
It's been reliable up to this point, and is safe to use by exercising a little common sense and performs as expected. It has saved time and enabled me to do things that I would not have been able to do just using my pitiful hand power. In discussing its performance I have mentioned how instrumental it is in helping me do things I could not ordinarily do by hand, but it has also opened up other avenues of use that I hadn't originally thought of. It can drill through metal, if I start with the smallest bit to make a pilot hole and gradually work through bit sizes until I come to the one that matches my needs, I can now put in shades and/or curtains on my metal-framed windows. Fantastic! The only drawback is, as mentioned, the weight and vibration make it a challenge to keep it steady, but I manage.
