Ativa Vortex HS2000 15-Sheet Micro-Cut Shredder

Rating: 2 out of 5
  • Currently 2.0/5.0

The Ativa Vortex HS2000 15-Sheet Micro-Cut Shredder is a shredder that cuts paper into tiny squares which ensures that your shredded data is not retrievable when it is discarded. An added bonus is that it shreds CD/DVDs, staples, paperclips, and credit cards. With identity theft on the rise, a micro-cut shredder is a much needed addition to a home user's home or office.

I had only one preference in mind when I bought this shredders, I simply needed a shredder that was solidly designed. I have broken more than one shredder in my time. I have tried them all except the really expensive ones that we use at work.

The construction of the Ativa is solid and the machine is built like a tank. This shredder operates quickly and quietly. The storage bin for the shredder is also generous and comes with a handy handle to make emptying it easy. This is not a lightweight machine. Do not attempt to carry it if you do not have help.

One of the advantages to this shredder is that the blades are metal, not plastic. This is also why the machine cost more. I believe you get what you pay for. A cheaper shredder will have blades that are plastic. Plastic blades break more easily and are more prone to jamming. I have killed more than one shredder that had plastic blades. Paying $299.99 was not a big deal for me. Also, the micro-cut feature makes reassembling shredded data more difficult than if you were to use a strip-cut or cross-cut shredder.

The shredder shuts off after 10 minutes of use. This feature is to keep the machine from overheating. Overall, my experience, so far has been good. I have yet to destroy it. The machine comes with one year limited; five year limited (cutters) warranty.

Pros
Quick and quiet operation
