The Chrysler PT Cruiser was resurrected largely out of nostalgia for the original model put out in the 1940s. At the time of its introduction, roughly coinciding with Volkswagen's reintroduction of the similarly nostalgic New Beetle, the PT Cruiser become an object of adoration as baby boomers saddled up with this vehicle out of affinity for the faux retro styling.
However, since the original revamp was put out in 2001, this model of car has not aged very gracefully. The features presented in this model have not changed much since 2001. While other models have evolved with the changing times, the PT Cruiser still feels hopelessly outdated. Furthermore, the recent financial troubles of Chrysler have resulted in less and less support being given to this model.
Older models of the PT Cruiser packed a sporty turbo that helped distinguish it from its shallow competition. This enabled the vehicle to feel fun and zippy while also being a sensible family option. New models of the PT Cruiser lack this turbo.
Furthermore, the hatchback market has blossomed recently with models such as the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris sidling in on the PT Cruiser's territory. This emphasizes how poorly this car has aged over the years.
Driving this car lacks the excitement it did several years ago. This is also compounded by the splashy feeling the PT Cruiser gives the driver when turning. It certainly isn't the most comforting thing to get the sensation that you're about to fly out the window when you go around a bend.
It's sad to see this model sink into obscurity after its recent reintroduction. The exterior still has the earlier appeal but everything about the car's performance and interior screams outdated. Do yourself a favor and find a ride that's a bit more sensible.
