After tirelessly researching and test driving SUVs I decided on purchasing a 2009 Dodge Durango. I like the looks of the current Dodge Durango body style, which has been around for the past five years. Compared to the older body styles it is much sleeker than its predecessors. I had three choices of trim lines to choose from; the SE, SLT, and Limited. I chose the SLT as it came handsomely equipped with a V8 and four wheel drive.
With a second child on the way and two dogs, I needed plenty of interior space, and the Durango certainly delivered. The third row seating was much more spacious than the Tahoe's I looked at. With the spacious interior and three rows of seats the entire family, including the dogs, had plenty of room to stretch out and be comfortable. Another great feature of the interior is the stain repellent seats. With two young children stain resistant seats have already been put to the test and passed. Dual climate control makes sure everyone is comfortable.
I also think the little things about a vehicle make a difference. With that said, the Durango has a power outlet in the back of the middle console that makes it easy to charge the cell phones and for my daughter to plug in her video games or portable DVD player. This one little convenience has been a life saver on long trips. The seats are fairly comfortable, but not quite as luxurious as the Tahoe, Denali, or Navigator.
The SLT model I purchased also came with sharp-looking 18 inch allow wheels and an eight-speaker stereo system with a CD player and satellite radio. I also upgraded to the Tech package, which included a remote ignition and touch screen interface on the inside. Another nice feature of the Tech package is the rear back-up camera that gives the driver a clear view when backing up.
The Durango rides fairly smooth even though it is on a truck chassis. The steering is a little bit rough as well. Overall the ride is fairly smooth and the handling is what one would expect from an SUV.
Overall I am extremely pleased with the purchase of my 2009 Dodge Durango. The price along with the options, interior room, and sleek exterior I would recommend it to anyone looking for an SUV.
