2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

The 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins turbo diesel is a pulling work horse, mine is a quad cab long box 4x4. The ride does not compare to a GM truck in the same class however the durability of the solid front axle makes it all worth the harsh ride (which I hear can be solved with Bilstein Shocks) especially in off road high wheel torque conditions. I've only had two problems with my Cummins. First the vent tube from the valve cover got hot and deformed, which made a leak that blew on to the hood and down the side of the block. This was fixed by the dealer free of charge. Second was the front crankshaft seal, which leaked allot of oil. The dealer first replaced the timing case gasket at a cost of over $1,000 to me, however when that didn't fix the problem they put a capped seal that did fix the problem. The steering has become loose, the reason is because the right lower ball joint is loose, and the steering gearbox is loose. From what I hear the gearbox is a common problem and the cheapest I found was O'reillys for 170 plus the core. I suspect the sheet metal on the truck is thinner than on GM trucks. I suspect this because my wife drives a GMC in the same class and hers was parked right behind mine during a hail storm. Her truck had much fewer and less severe denting than my Dodge. The reason I went with a Dodge and not a GM is because of the enormous amount of room the dodge has in the front, however if I had gone with a crew GM I would have had more room in the back. My wife complains about the seats in my Dodge (leather). I have to agree that her leather seats are much more comfortable than the Dodge.
