To answer SNavin's questions:1. No, the objective of the protocol is to provide a Transport Service (equivalent to X.214) in terms of TCP/IP.2. RFC 1006 (version 3) *obsoletes* RFC 983 (version 2). According to section 7, "The changes in going from version 1 of the protocol to version 2 and then to version 3 are all relatively small."More generally, the "Introduction and Philosophy" of this RFC is now looking pretty silly. The protocol really is just TP0-over-TCP, and its usefulness is in reusing some ISO protocols in a world where TCP/IP "won".
