Technically, this would be a wireless protocol. Other comments have mentioned specifically the use of pigeons, may I point out that the use of owls has a number of advantages, as documented in a number of books by J K Rowling:ability to find hidden addresseeshawk resistence is much higherlarger packet size (in some cases up to the size of a broom)longer lifespancan turn their heads all the way round (off topic, but still pretty cool...)
