20090134235 | Vibration Systems and Methods - In one or more embodiments, a vibration system comprises a vibratable plate, a support member surrounding the vibratable plate, and a vibration-inducing member surrounding the support member, wherein the vibration-inducing member is configured to radially expand and contract against the support member so as to produce axial vibration of the vibratable plate. In one embodiment, the vibratable plate has an outer circumference; a tubular member is concentrically disposed about the outer circumference of the plate, and an annular vibration-inducing member is concentrically disposed about the outer circumference of the tubular member. The vibration-inducing member is preferably a piezoelectric ring that is radially expandable and contractable against the wall of the tubular member to cause the plate to vibrate in the axial direction. In another embodiment, an aerosol generating system comprises an piezoelectric ring that is radially expandable and contractable upon actuation thereof; a tubular member disposed within the center hole of the piezoelectric ring, and a circular vibratable aperture plate disposed across the internal lumen of the tubular member. The piezoelectric ring is radially expandable and contractable against the tubular member to cause the aperture plate to vibrate in the axial direction, and a reservoir of liquid is coupled to the tubular member so as to supply the liquid to the vibratable aperture plate and produce an aerosol upon vibration thereof. | 05-28-2009 |
20090261178 | SUBMINIATURE THERMOELECTRIC FRAGRANCE DISPENSER - A dispenser for dispensing a liquid includes a chamber holding a supply of liquid, an annular conduit substantially filled with liquid from the chamber, and a thermoelectric transducer near one end of the annular conduit. Upon application of electrical current to the thermoelectric transducer, the transducer operates to cause boiling of a quantity of liquid in the annular conduit. Expansion of a resulting bubble forces liquid out the end of the annular conduit. The dispenser may include battery powered electronic control circuit that includes a supercapacitor. The liquid may be dispensed in periodic bursts. In one application, the dispenser is especially suited to automatically and unobtrusively dispense a fragrance, perfume, or other personal care liquid worn by a person. In some applications, the dispenser may be worn on or under an article of clothing, or attached to an article of jewelry. | 10-22-2009 |
20110168170 | PRESERVATIVE FREE INSULIN FORMULATIONS AND SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR AEROSOLIZING - One embodiment describes an insulin formulation that is specifically adapted for aerosolization. The formulation comprises a major amount of water and a minor amount of insulin. Further, the formulation is preservative free, without meta-cresol, cresol or phenol, to permit the formulation to be aerosolized using a vibrating aperture plate without substantial foaming of the insulin formulation. | 07-14-2011 |
20110168172 | PRESERVATIVE-FREE SINGLE DOSE INHALER SYSTEMS - An aerosolization system includes a squeezable container having a resilient container body. The container is configured to deliver a unit dosage of a liquid when squeezed a single time. The system also includes an aerosolizer that is constructed of a housing defining a mouthpiece, and an aerosol generator disposed in the housing. The aerosol generator comprises a vibratable membrane having a front face and a rear face, and a vibratable element used to vibrate the membrane. Further, the housing includes an opening that is adapted to receive a unit dosage of the liquid from the container. The opening provides a liquid path to the rear face of the vibratable membrane. | 07-14-2011 |
20110208161 | INTRACOCHLEAR DRUG DELIVERY TO THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM - The present invention is directed to method and system for delivery of brain-targeted drugs to the cerebrospinal fluid via the perilymphatic fluid of the inner ear. The system utilizes the passage of cochlear aqueduct as a drug delivery route from the inner ear to the subarachnoid space of the brain. The delivery system includes an otological conduit which enables transfer of drugs from the auditory ear canal to the inner ear and a wearable dispenser for supplying drugs to the otological conduit. The drug composition comprises a suspension of solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) which facilitate delivery through the cochlear aqueduct. Employing aspects of present invention, a method and system for treating chronic pain is described. | 08-25-2011 |
20120012665 | AEROSOL GENERATORS WITH ENHANCED CORROSION RESISTANCE - An apparatus for generating an aerosol that includes a support member having a first face and a second face and defining an opening therethrough, where the support member includes a first material having a first galvanic potential, and an aerosolization element mounted on the support member and disposed substantially over the opening and defining at least one aperture therethrough. The aerosolization element may include a second material having a second galvanic potential that is substantially equal to the first galvanic potential of the first material. Also, a method of aerosolizing a liquid medicament by providing an aperture plate made of a first material and having a top surface and a bottom surface. The aperture plate is mounted on a support member that includes a second material that has an opening such that the aperture plate covers the opening, and where the first and second materials have similar galvanic potentials. | 01-19-2012 |
