20110168543Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of Perfluorophthalocyanine Molecules - Advantageous microwave-assisted methods for synthesis of fluorinated phthalocyanines are provided. The microwave-assisted methods offer enhanced yields, substantially eliminate reaction solvents, and facilitate purification relative to conventional synthesis techniques. Typical implementation involve a reaction mixture that includes perfluoro-phthalonitrile that is reacted in a vessel with application of microwave energy for a reaction period sufficient to yield a fluorinated phthalocyanine. The fluorinated phthalocyanines synthesized according to the disclosed microwave-assisted methods have wide ranging applications, e.g., corrosion-related applications, coating-related applications, catalysis, and the production of optical and electronic materials.07-14-2011

20100324377CONTROLLING AN ALARM IN A MEDICAL INSTRUMENT - The invention concerns a method for controlling an alarm in a medical instrument or system, the medical instrument or system detecting at least one physiological parameter of the patient. The present value of the physiological parameter is consecutively detected and an alarm delay is determined as a function of at least one detected value of the physiological parameter wherein the function yields a shorter alarm delay for increasing values of the deviation from a normal value and a longer alarm delay for decreasing values of the deviation from the normal value. Further, the duration the value of the physiological parameter exceeds or under-runs at least one predefined threshold for the physiological parameter defining an upper or lower limit for a normal range of the physiological parameter, respectively, is measured and the alarm is generated when the duration the determined value of the physiological parameter exceeds or under-runs the predefined threshold exceeds the alarm delay. This method allows for the avoidance of nuisance alarms while still indicating severe conditions of the monitored patient reliably.12-23-2010

20110108640SHOWER HEAD FOR A SANITARY SHOWER FITTING - A shower head for a hand-held shower attachment, an overhead shower attachment or a side shower attachment contains, in its shower-head housing, a vortex chamber which is of funnel shape with the side wall curved. The funnel begins, at the location of the largest diameter, in a radial plane and then decreases in diameter along a curved contour to an exit, where the walls of the funnel run in the axial direction. At the location of the largest diameter of the vortex chamber, upstream of this tapering region, the water is let in tangentially in the circumferential direction and in the axial direction. The vortex which is generated by virtue of the water being let in tangentially accelerates its speed of rotation in the direction of the spray disc. Arranged at the end of the tapering region is a jet-outlet chamber which is very flat, but is of large diameter in relation to the vortex chamber. The vortex travels into this jet-outlet chamber, and therefore, even in the outer region, water jets exit with a massage action out of the jet-outlet openings which are present there.05-12-2011

20080244300Fault Tolerant Time Synchronization Mechanism in a Scaleable Multi-Processor Computer - Redundant time-of-day (TOD) oscillators are aligned, within a master oscillator path, to local logic oscillator and used to create independent step-sync signals. A step checker validates and provides selection signals to identify which of the TOD oscillators operates according to a criterion. Independent step-sync signals are transmitted to several sibling chips. Local step and sync signals are delayed to arrive at TOD register nearly synchronous with TOD registers in sibling chips. A slave oscillator path may be used to select time signals generated in a sibling chip, whereby the master oscillator path is deselected. A primary control register set may be used to configure which among several chips is a master chip using the master oscillator path. All remaining chips are slave chips. All segments of the topology are redundant. One of multiple possible alternate topologies is defined in a secondary control register set. Commands and TOD values are passed on the fabric at predefined time increment boundaries to establish, restore, or maintain synchronization across all chips.10-02-2008

20080209245Accounting for Microprocessor Resource Consumption - Techniques for accounting microprocessor resource consumption. The present invention provides an automatic method to timely determine the current microprocessor clock frequency. Information provided by timer facilities of the microprocessor is reused by sampling this information at constant intervals. Such direct derivation of the microprocessor clock frequency is a real-time method that also takes into consideration secondary effects. Examples for such secondary effects include clock frequency variations across chips due to manufacturing variations, any degradation due to performance loss by thermal, or other detrimental effects as well as any voltage changes. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the real-time microprocessor clock frequency determination is implemented as part of the microprocessor itself. No additional service processors or other external hardware facilities are needed in order to control the microprocessor clock frequency determination function.08-28-2008
