MOLECULAR IMPRINTING OF SMALL PARTICLES, AND PRODUCTION OF SMALL PARTICLES FROM SOLID STATE REACTANTS - Small particles of polymeric material are produced by expansion of a mixture of monomers and a propellant. The size and shape of the particles can be precisely tailored by materials selection and expansion conditions. Particles of 10 nanometers to 100 microns can be produced. If monomers exhibiting solid state reactivity are utilized, the particles thus formed can be polymerized at any time after formation. The particles produced by this method can be molecularly imprinted by incorporating a template into the particle prior to fully curing the particle, in a manner which allows selective extraction of the template from the cured particle after formation without deformation of the imprint site. A two step polymerization process allows the particles to be deposited on and adhered to a wide variety of substrates without additional agents. The molecularly imprinted particles can be used in a wide variety of applications including the selective binding of analyte from a sample, where the analyte is the same as the template or is of substantially the same size and has a similar arrangement of chemical functional groups. Imprinted molecularly imprinted particles can be used for targeted delivery of agents in biological applications. Non-imprinted particles formed by the expansion technique using monomers of solid state reactivity can be used in optical data storage systems. | 10-02-2008

Sealants for Skin and Other Tissues - The present invention relates to sealants for skin and other tissues. The sealants include an electroprocessed material. The sealants may contain more than one electroprocessed materials and may contain additional substances. The invention further relates to methods of making and using such sealants. | 11-18-2010
Electroprocessed Fibrin-Based Matrices and Tissues - The invention is directed to formation and use of electroprocessed fibrin as an extracellular matrix and, together with cells, its use in forming engineered tissue. The engineered tissue can include the synthetic manufacture of specific organs or tissues which may be implanted into a recipient. The electroprocessed fibrin may also be combined with other molecules in order to deliver the molecules to the site of application or implantation of the electroprocessed fibrin. The fibrin or fibrin/cell suspension is electrodeposited onto a substrite to form the tissues and organs. | 12-09-2010

Single Ply Tissue Products Surface Treated With A Softening Agent - Tissue products are described that have been topically treated with a chemical additive, such as a softener. The softener may be, for instance, a polysiloxane. The polysiloxane is topically applied to a tissue sheet, such as a single ply sheet, so as to form a Z-directional gradient in the sheet. Particular, most of the polysiloxane remains on the surface of the tissue product as opposed to migrating to the center of the sheet. In this manner, tissue sheets are formed with improved softness at lower levels of polysiloxane and without the need for applying any surfactants to the sheet. A system for applying chemical additives to tissue sheets is also described. The system includes a chemical additive applicator, such as a meltblown die that emits the chemical additive through a plurality of orifices. In one embodiment, the system includes a device for periodically cleaning the orifices during application of the chemical additive. The cleaning device may be, for instance, a brush that traverses across the die head when desired. | 10-23-2008

Recessed LED Downlight - A unitary die-cast cap for a downlight can includes a base section and a plurality of heat-sink fins. The base section is a plate that includes an interior base-surface, an exterior base-surface, and an exterior wall-surface. The exterior base-surface, which is an opposite surface of the interior base-surface, forms an exterior top-surface of a downlight tubular can. The exterior wall-surface is configured to be positioned in direct attachment to an interior wall-surface of the downlight can. The plurality of heat-sink fins extend from the interior base-surface and form a substantially cylindrical exterior heat-sink wall touching or in close proximity to the interior wall-surface of the downlight can. | 11-25-2010

Led track lighting module - A track light module for use with a low-voltage track carrying a pair of elongated conductors transversely spaced from each other and accessible through a longitudinal slot in the track. The module includes a first housing that contains a printed circuit board carrying an LED and forming an aperture permitting light from the LED to be radiated beyond the first housing. A second housing carries a pair of electrical conductors adapted to extend into the low-voltage track to make contact with the conductors within the track. The second housing also includes surfaces for fastening the second housing to the track when the second housing and the track are moved relative to each other. A pair of electrical contacts on the printed circuit board contact the conductors carried by the second housing and thereby receive electrical power for the LED. A connector attaches the first and second housings together. | 10-01-2009
Led Track Lighting System - A track light assembly includes a low-voltage track. A light module comprises an elongated thermally conductive housing fitted over the track. The housing may also surround the track. The housing preferably forms an elongated channel. An elongated printed circuit board (PCB) is mounted on the thermally conductive housing and carries a plurality of clusters of light emitting diodes (LED's) distributed over the PCB surface. An elongated lens is fitted over the PCB and LED clusters. A track adapter attached to an end portion of the track includes electrically conductive contacts for electrically coupling the conductors in the track housing with contacts on the printed circuit board. Thus, a cool running, elongated, linear light module is provided which is adjustably placeable along the length of the track. | 11-19-2009
