INSTRUMENTED HANDLE AND PEDAL SYSTEMS FOR USE IN REHABILITATION, EXERCISE AND TRAINING EQUIPMENT - A mechatronic exercise system, e.g., for rehabilitation, having instrumented handle and pedal systems and, preferably, an interactive virtual environment is disclosed. Alternatively, the instrumented handle and pedal systems are part of a virtual reality augmenting kit that can convert most types of exercise equipment, such as a stationary or exercise bicycle, ergometer, rowing machine or the like, into full virtual reality (VR) smart systems. In another embodiment, the instrumented handle and pedal systems can each be used separately with other types of devices. In a preferred embodiment, components embedded with sensors are implemented, e.g., on a stationary, exercise bicycle to monitor physiological and biomechanical parameters of the user. Signal data from the sensing components is used to immerse the user in a VR simulation so as to provide the user with visual, auditory, and haptic feedback to the user's performance. | 04-07-2011

Ophthalmic Surgical Systems with Automated Billing Mechanism - A system and method for billing for one or more surgical procedures includes a treatment planning module to accept input selecting multiple surgical procedures, a patient data management module to provide patient data, and a billing module to charge different payers for the selected surgical procedures in relation to the patient data, wherein the control system is operable to communicate with a surgical apparatus, configured to perform the selected multiple procedures. The system can include a user interface to provide a treatment planning menu to select surgical procedures, a payer sources menu, to input identification of the different payers, and a payer factor menu, to input factors impacting coverage by the different payers. A method of billing for one or more surgical procedures includes accepting input selecting multiple surgical procedures, accepting input regarding patient data, and charging different payers for the selected surgical procedures in relation to the patient data. | 07-09-2009

Tangle-free/ drag-free coiled pet leash - A dog leash utilizing a coil of durable material such as polyurethane which contracts and expands according to the distance of the dog from the holder of the leash. This feature minimizes instances of the dog's legs becoming tangled in the leash or the leash dragging on the ground. The coil also provides shock absorption as dog reaches the end of the leash's maximum length. The present invention also utilizes a sheath of fabric covering the coil, shielding the dog from direct contact with the bare coil which may cause irritation, and creates a soft and cushioned handle for the holder of the leash. The fabric also allows for decorative effects which would not be possible with a bare coil. | 02-18-2010

METHOD FOR GENERATING AND USING A REUSABLE CUSTOM-DEFINED NESTABLE COMPOUND DATA TYPE AS DATABASE QUALIFIERS - A method for generating and using a reusable custom-defined nestable compound data type for use as a database qualifier provides significant advantages over using traditional non-reusable structured tables of RDBM systems is described. The method and data structures of the invention may be used to define and instantiate flexible nested-record structures that reverse and better expose the relationship between parent records and private child sub-records in a database schema to provide improved referential integrity and visibility into database structure. | 06-04-2009
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PERFORMING UNICODE MATCHING - System and method for performing Unicode matching for comparing and merging similar data objects having Unicode strings that are equivalent yet not exact matches. Unicode characters are characterized by number of strokes, stroke order, radicals, geometry, phonemes in association with input method editor and keyboard characteristics such as location of a character on an IME or keyboard (or number of GUI interface interactions used in entering the character, e.g., via tapping where “a” on a mobile device keyboard takes 1 tap of a key, “b” takes 2 taps). These characteristics associated with code points and IME's/keyboards are utilized to create subdomains for matching and determining “distance” to other Unicode code points (e.g., number of keyboard keys away). Allows for determining whether close, yet incorrect data entry may have taken place. Enables merging of duplicate data objects into master data object where minor differences or spelling errors introduce actually represent duplicate data. | 06-25-2009
METHOD OF REPRESENTING AN XML SCHEMA DEFINITION AND DATA WITHIN A RELATIONAL DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM USING A REUSABLE CUSTOM-DEFINED NESTABLE COMPOUND DATA TYPE - Representing an XML Schema Definition and Data within a Relational Database Management System using a Reusable Custom-Defined Nestable Compound Data Type. These Data Types provide a natural representation and storage of an XML schema definition and the corresponding XML data. Data Types are created in a RDBMS to store the hierarchical data of a XML data file. Hierarchical data may be imported into a RDBMS by populating the Data Type Fields with the values of data held in the XML data file. The data contained in the RDBMS may also be published to an XML data file. | 05-27-2010
SYSTEM, METHOD AND STRUCTURES FOR A REUSABLE CUSTOM-DEFINED NESTABLE COMPOUND DATA TYPE FOR CONSTRUCTION OF DATABASE OBJECTS - The reusable custom-defined nestable compound data type for construction of database objects of one or more embodiments of the invention provide advantages over traditional non-reusable structured tables of RDBM systems. The data structure of one or more embodiments of the invention may be thought of in part as a generalized form of a user defined compound data type that may be used to model various “exotic” data structures, such as flexible hierarchies and networks, in database schema. Thus, the system, methods and data structures of one or more embodiments of the invention may be used to define and instantiate structures that support the creation of flexible nested records that expose the relationship between parent records and private child sub-records in a database schema. | 05-27-2010
METHODS AND STRUCTURES FOR UTILIZING REUSABLE CUSTOM-DEFINED NESTABLE COMPOUND DATA TYPES TO PERMIT PRODUCT VARIATIONS WITHIN AN EXISITNG TAXONOMY - Methods and structures for utilizing reusable custom-defined nestable compound data types to permit product variations within an existing taxonomy are described. Multi-attribute Tuples representing individual product variations provide an efficient way to represent an irregular subset of all attribute permutations. Tuples, using the system, methods and structures of one or more embodiments of the invention, provide an elegant solution to efficiently represent the many variations. | 05-27-2010

STRAPLESS CANTILEVERED RESPIRATORY MASK SEALABLE TO A USER'S FACE AND METHOD - A facial mask for filtering ambient air is formed from a pre-form of a multilayer flexible flat filter member with solid plastic side ribs of a size to extend the filter member over the mouth and nostrils of the user. The flat pre-form filter member can have a trapezoidal perimeter with an endless band of a hypoallergenic adhesive tape encircling a perimeter opening of the filter member and operable for sealing with the user's skin to prevent leakage over extended use. Portions of the adhesive tape can self-seal to form a structural base for maintaining a central concavity by cantilevering the side ribs to ensure a large filtration area offset from the nostrils and mouth of the user. The flexible filter material can further include an activated carbon layer. | 11-12-2009
