20090032786 | SPARE TIRE CARRIER HAVING OVERLOAD PROTECTION WITH CONTROLLED CABLE PAYOUT - A tire carrier assembly is operative to provide a controlled payout of cable in response to an application of a minimum predetermined amount of force upon the tire carrier assembly. The tire carrier assembly includes a housing having a bottom wall and a side wall extending outwardly from the bottom wall defining an interior space. A rotation shaft is coupled to the housing and having a longitudinal axis. A sheave is coupled to the shaft and rotatable about the longitudinal axis. A gear member extends from the sheave and is rotatable therewith about the longitudinal axis. A pin fixedly secured to the housing. A torque plate has a gear portion epicyclically engaged with the gear member of the sheave. The torque plate has an arm portion extending generally radially outwardly with respect to the gear portion. The torque plate has a closed-ended slot formed in the arm portion and receiving the pin therethrough. The arm portion has legs extending along opposite sides of the slot. At least one of the legs has a weakened area at which the arm portion deforms in response to an application of a predetermined amount of force upon the tire carrier assembly and contacts an inner surface of the housing to provide a controlled payout of a cable from the sheave. | 02-05-2009 |

20090261882 | Skewed Double Differential Pair Circuit for Offset Cancelllation - A differential system producing differential signals with offset cancellation utilizing a double differential input pair system is disclosed. It uses two parallel differential transistor pairs which are intentionally skewed. Nominally, the differential pairs are skewed in opposite direction from each, but with equal magnitude, so that the combination of the two differential pairs is nominally balanced. The current through each differential pair is then increased or decreased until any offset is sufficiently cancelled, using a selection means for providing an equi-potential value to first and second differential inputs in a calibration mode of the system and a comparison means for comparing first and second differential outputs in a calibration mode to determine the offset of the system. | 10-22-2009 |

20090127619 | DEEP TRENCH SEMICONDUCTOR STRUCTURE AND METHOD - An electrical structure and method of forming. The electrical structure includes a semiconductor substrate comprising a deep trench, an oxide liner layer is formed over an exterior surface of the deep trench, and a field effect transistor (FET) formed within the semiconductor substrate. The first FET includes a source structure, a drain structure, and a gate structure. The gate structure includes a gate contact connected to a polysilicon fill structure. The polysilicon fill structure is formed over the oxide liner layer and within the deep trench. The polysilicon fill structure is configured to flow current laterally across the polysilicon fill structure such that the current will flow parallel to a top surface of the semiconductor substrate. | 05-21-2009 |

20090025362 | INFRARED SUPPRESSION SYSTEM WITH SPIRAL SEPTUM - An InfraRed Suppression System (IRSS) includes a double-walled exhaust duct and double walled septum. The double walled structure provides a flow path for secondary (non-exhaust gas) cooling air flow to slots along the surfaces exposed to exhaust gases. Exhaust gas flow past these slots draws cooling air across the duct and septum surfaces. This flow cools the surfaces close to the slots and mixes with exhaust gasses downstream to cool the exhaust plume. The septum in the shape of a helix rotating fully blocks line-of-sight to the turbine exit from the aft of the aircraft. The exhaust duct is intended to be shrouded by an aerodynamic fairing which provides an aerodynamic contour which minimizes aerodynamic impact on the aircraft. | 01-29-2009 |

20120286104 | HAND THROW MECHANISM FOR IN-TIE SWITCH MACHINE - A hand throw mechanism for an in-tie switch machine having a drive element which serves to move switch points from a first end point to a second end point. The mechanism includes an elongated hand throw arm having a first coupling element that includes a first lower mating surface and a first upper mating surface. The mechanism also includes a gear set having an output shaft for moving the drive element. The gear set additionally includes a second coupling element having a second lower mating surface for engaging the first upper mating surface and a second upper mating surface for engaging the first lower mating surface to thus couple the first and second coupling elements. Rotation of the hand throw arm through an angle of approximately 180 degrees then causes rotation of the output shaft to thus move the driving element and ultimately the switch points. The mechanism also includes a thrust element having a raised portion wherein rotation of the thrust element urges the raised portion against the first coupling element to separate the first and second coupling elements and disengage the throw arm. | 11-15-2012 |

20090295378 | CONFINED FIELD MAGNET SYSTEM AND METHOD - A system and method of generating a magnetic field that is uniform in magnitude and direction may generally restrict the field from expanding away from a longitudinal axis. In some instances, such a magnetic field may be controllable in magnitude and direction. In accordance with some embodiments, a generated magnetic field may be selectively confined to a predetermined three-dimensional space. | 12-03-2009 |
20100109657 | GMR biosensor with aligned magnetic field - A planar array of GMR or TMR sensor elements with planar free and pinned layers is used as the basis of a sensor for detecting the presence of small magnetized particles. In particular, the sensor is used for detecting the presence of magnetized particles bonded to biological molecules that are themselves bonded to a substrate. The magnetized particles on the molecules are detected by the sensors as a result of the interaction between the stray fields of the particles and the magnetic configuration of the sensors. By forming a co-planar layer of soft magnetic material over the sensor or its array, the external field used to magnetize the particles is self-aligned perpendicularly to the sensor plane whereby it does not interfere with the stray fields of the particles. | 05-06-2010 |
20100302689 | Bio-sensor with hard-direction field - A magnetic sensor for identifying small magnetic particles bound to a substrate includes a regular, planar orthogonal array of MTJ cells formed within or beneath that substrate. Each MTJ cell has a high aspect ratio and positions of stable magnetic equilibrium along an easy magnetic axis and positions of unstable magnetic equilibrium along a hard magnetic axis. By initializing the magnetizations of each MTJ cell in its unstable hard-axis position, the presence of even a small magnetic particle can exert a sufficient perturbative strayfield to tip the magnetization to its stable position. The magnetization change in an MTJ cell can be measured after each of two successive opposite polarity magnetizations of a bound particle and the presence of the particle thereby detected. | 12-02-2010 |
