20100049324EXPANDABLE INTERBODY FUSION CAGE WITH ROTATIONAL INSERT - An expandable intervertebral fusion cage that includes an inferior baseplate and a superior baseplate, an insert rotatbly received between the inferior and superior baseplates, and a guide pin coupled to the inferior and superior baseplates for facilitating the rotation of the insert. The insert includes a pair of protuberances, each of which are releasably engageable with a corresponding lock groove formed within the inferior and superior baseplates. When said insert is rotated relative to the guide pin, the protuberances engage the lock grooves, and the inferior and superior baseplates expand from a collapsed position, in which said inferior and superior baseplates are juxtaposed with one another, and an expanded position, in which said inferior and superior baseplates are diverged away from one another. As a result, the cage distracts in parallel. Tabs formed on the superior baseplate continuously engage slots formed within the inferior baseplate when the baseplates expand from their collapsed position to their expanded position.02-25-2010
20100179558Apparatus And Methods For Inter-Operative Verification Of Appropriate Spinal Prosthesis Size And Placement - A distractor and measuring device includes a first handle operatively connected to a first paddle and a second handle operatively connected to a second paddle. The first and second handles are pivotally connected to one another such that movement of the handles relative to one another causes the paddles to move relative to each other. At least one transducer is positioned on at least one of the first and second handles for measuring an amount of force applied during distraction. A measurement rod is pivotally connected to the device and is movable in a longitudinal direction relative to the first and second paddles. A potentiometer is operatively connected to the measurement rod to measure the angular orientation of the measurement rod.07-15-2010
20110104017PORTABLE UV WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM - A portable water purification system and method of operation of the system is disclosed that may comprise a container defining a water purification chamber; a plurality of UV generating light sources distributed in the purification chamber of the container; and a portable power source electrically connected to the light sources, and adapted to convert kinetic energy to electrical energy to provide to the light sources. The portable power source may be adapted to be driven by human motive power to provide the kinetic energy. The purification system may comprise a filling opening to the container; and a filter intermediate the filling opening and the chamber adapted to remove turbidity from the water entering the water purification chamber through the filling opening. The portable power source may comprise a hand-cranked electrical generator. The UV light sources may produce UV light in a wavelength band selected to effectively deactivate all harmful biological water contaminants, and produce UV light in a dosage sufficient to effectively deactivate all harmful biological water contaminants.05-05-2011

20120015851METHOD AND DEVICE FOR RAPID, DETECTION OF SPECIFIC REACTIONS USING NON-MAGNETIC AND MAGNETIC NANOPARTICLES - A method and apparatus for conducting specific binding assays with two or more particles is claimed. A non-magnetic nanoparticle capable of binding the target of interest is mixed with a magnetic particle capable of binding a species directed toward binding the same target of interest. Following the application of the mixture to a capillary tube or other container that allows the separation with a magnetic field or other force, the resultant movement of the magnetic or combination of magnetic and non-magnetic assemblies can be read visually or with the aid of an appropriate instrument.01-19-2012

20090292813Address Assignment in Fibre Channel Over Ethernet Environments - A method of initializing a Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) link between a Fibre Channel over Ethernet node (ENode) and Fibre Channel Forwarders (FCFs) in a network by discovering the presence of FCFs available to the ENode and other FCFs, assigning second MAC addresses to the ENode corresponding to each available FCF, and converting from a management and initialization process using the first MAC address to normal Fibre Channel operation using the second MAC addresses. The implementations described herein may additionally distinguish management and initialization processes from normal Fibre Channel operation using separate Ethertypes.11-26-2009
20100182936 TOPOLOGY DATABASE SYNCHRONIZATION - A network comprises a plurality of interconnected switches that implement a topology database synchronization technique in which each switch determines whether its topology database has already been transmitted to a neighboring switch when a new link is formed to the neighboring switch. When a new electrical connection is detected, the local switch determines whether any of its other ports have already been connected to the same neighboring switch. If no other port on the local switch has been connected to the neighboring switch, the local switch transmits its topology database to the neighboring switch. If the local switch determines that it has already been connected to the neighboring switch via another one of its ports, the local switch does not yet again copy of the database to the neighboring switch. Also, link state record updates are propagated via only one inter-switch link to a neighboring switch, not all possible links.07-22-2010

20080205023ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS ON TRENCHED SUBSTRATES AND METHOD OF FORMING SAME - A method of mounting an electronic component on a substrate includes forming at least one trench in a surface of the substrate. The trenches formed in the substrate reduce a stiffness of the substrate, which provides less resistance to shear. Accordingly, the trenches reduce the amount of strain on the joints, which mount the electronic component to the substrate, which enhances the life of the joints.08-28-2008
