20110098998 | MULTISCALE FINITE VOLUME METHOD FOR RESERVOIR SIMULATION - A Multiscale Finite Volume (MSFV) method is provided to efficiently solve large heterogeneous problems; it is usually employed for pressure equations and delivers conservative flux fields to be used in transport problems. It relies on the hypothesis that the fine-scale problem can be described by a set of local solutions coupled by a conservative coarse-scale problem. In numerically challenging cases, a more accurate localization approximation is used to obtain a good approximation of the fine-scale solution. According to an embodiment, a method is provided to iteratively improve the boundary conditions of the local problems, and is responsive to the data structure of the underlying MSFV method and employs a Krylov-subspace projection method to obtain an unconditionally stable scheme and accelerate convergence. In one embodiment the MSFV operator is used. Alternately, the MSFV operator is combined with an operator derived from the problem solved to construct the conservative flux field. | 04-28-2011 |

20130335735 | Method and System for Optical Spectroscopy - Two dimensional (2D) optical spectroscopy, wherein the spectrum has an excitation and an emission axis, reveals information formerly hidden in one-dimensional (1D) optical spectroscopy. However, current two dimensional optical spectroscopy systems are complex laboratory arrangements and accordingly limited in deployment. According to embodiments of the invention a monolithic platform providing significantly reduced complexity and increased robustness is provided allowing for “black-box” modules allowing commercial deployment of 2D optical spectroscopy instruments. Additionally, the invention supports high pulse repetition rates as well as one quantum and two quantum measurements under electronic control. | 12-19-2013 |

20130310331 | ANTIDIABETIC ENOLIC GLUCOSIDE OF PHENYLPYRUVIC ACID - There is provided an antidiabetic enolic glucoside of phenylpyruvic acid and derivatives thereof for use as medicaments, especially normoglycemic agents, i.e. for lowering blood glucose levels to normal levels in mammals that are obese, pre-diabetic or have diabetes, obesity and/or syndrome X. Hence the compounds of the present invention help to manage blood sugar levels, i.e. helping the body by balancing the blood sugar levels; helping to keep balanced blood glucose levels, particularly in humans with diabetes; aiding by enhancing the glucose uptake by the cells and by reducing sugar levels, thus improving or restoring the glucose tolerance; optimizing the glycemic response; normalizing the glucose tolerance. | 11-21-2013 |

20080281209 | Optical Device - The present invention provides an optical device which comprises a light guide incorporating a Bragg grating. The apparatus also comprises a moveable wall portion which is coupled to the Bragg grating so that a movement of the wall portion causes a force that effects a change in strain of the Bragg grating and thereby effects a change in an optical period of the Bragg grating. A temperature related change in the optical period of the Bragg grating is reduced by a temperature related change in the force on the Bragg grating by the moveable wall portion. | 11-13-2008 |
20110164945 | BLIND RIVET AND A METHOD OF JOINING THEREWITH - The invention relates to blind rivets and to methods of joining therewith. The method of the invention is suitable for joining two or more workpieces with a blind rivet. The method includes the first step of positioning a blind rivet at a point of overlap of two or more workpieces, the blind rivet including a rivet body and a mandrel. The next step involves rotating the mandrel about a longitudinal axis thereof and contacting the mandrel with the overlapping workpieces, wherein the mandrel is rotated at a speed to cause plasticization of the overlapping workpieces. The method then involves causing the mandrel to penetrate through the plasticized overlapping workpieces and form an aperture therethrough. A further step of the method involves capturing a portion of the overlapping workpieces that is displaced upon the penetration of the mandrel and securing the rivet body within the aperture to join the overlapping workpieces. The invention also includes a workpiece penetrating and joining blind rivet. The blind rivet includes a rivet body including a shank having a first end, a second end and an axial passage extending through the shank between the first and second ends. Also included is a mandrel including a shaft positioned within the axial passage and a head at one end of the shaft for contacting a workpiece wherein the mandrel is configured so that when contacting the workpiece, being rotated about a longitudinal axis thereof at a speed to cause plasticization of the workpiece and being caused to penetrate through the plasticized workpiece the mandrel cores a portion of the plasticised workpiece, displaces the portion from the workpiece and forms an aperture in the workpiece. | 07-07-2011 |
