20090039149CONTACTLESS ACTIVATION SYSTEMS AND METHODS - Methods and systems for enabling contactless communications with a contactless card are disclosed. A contactless card may include a contactless interface activation mechanism that includes one or more sense contacts, a processor, and a processor-readable storage medium in communication with the processor. The processor-readable storage medium may contain programming instructions for performing one or more applications. The processor may be in a protected state in which the processor is prevented from performing the instructions for at least one application in the processor-readable storage medium unless a load is placed on at least one sense contact.02-12-2009
20110284629PAYMENT TERMINAL ESD TEST - Systems and methods for performing test procedures for measuring and defining the sensitivity of payment terminals to ESD (electrostatic discharge) are disclosed. In some embodiments, a plurality of test equipment in a controlled environment are used to measure the peak discharge current (Ip) when a payment device is inserted into a payment terminal during several simulated conditions. Energy levels of the discharge currents are calculated using an energy calculation program. One or more reference current and energy levels are determined.11-24-2011
20120175420SYSTEMS AND METHODS TO DEFINE POSSIBLE ESD RISK - Systems and methods for performing test procedures for measuring and defining the sensitivity of payment devices to ESD (electrostatic discharge) are disclosed. In some embodiments, a plurality of test equipment in a controlled environment are used to measure the peak discharge current (Ip) when a payment device is inserted into a charge/discharge device during several simulated conditions. Energy levels of the discharge currents are calculated using an energy calculation program. One or more reference current and energy levels are determined.07-12-2012

20100065637TESTING PROTOCOLS FOR EXTENDED FUNCTIONALITY CARDS - Testing is performed upon a transaction payment card having a substrate with opposing surfaces, battery powered circuit, and having memory in contact with the substrate to store data that includes an identifier for an account upon which a transaction can be conducted. An electronic component, in contact with the substrate, is powered by the battery powered circuit. In the testing, an electrical measurement is made of the battery powered circuit at each of different times when the card is exposed to an environmental condition. An output of the electrical measurements is made. The environmental condition can be temperature, current pulse applied at different states of charge of the one or more batteries, an acceleration, deceleration, or vibration for a period of time applied to card, a vacuum condition applied to the card, etc.03-18-2010

20120223146Payment Card System and Method - Embodiments of the invention relate to payment cards and methods for making payment cards. In one embodiment, a card comprises a first layer and a second layer adjacent to the first layer. The second layer comprises a plurality of particles comprising metal, and the plurality of particles comprise at least about 15 volume % of the second layer. In another embodiment, a mixture is prepared comprising polymer and a plurality of particles comprising metal. The plurality of particles comprise at least about 15 volume % of the mixture. The mixture is pressed and an outer layer is applied. The mixture and outer layer are then cut to form the card.09-06-2012

20110210723Method of performing electrostatic discharge testing on a payment card - Methods of performing electrostatic discharge testing on a transaction card are disclosed. A transaction card may be placed on an insulated surface. A grounding probe may be placed at a first location on the transaction card. A discharge probe may be charged to a known voltage level. The discharge probe may then be discharged at a second location on the transaction card. A discharge wave shape may be recorded from the ground probe, and one of a pass condition and a fail condition may be assigned based on at least the value of the known voltage level as compared to a reference voltage level. The first location and the second location may each be selected from a plurality of areas on the transaction card.09-01-2011

20130082856REAL-TIME SYSTEM FOR IMAGING AND OBJECT DETECTION WITH A MULTISTATIC GPR ARRAY - A method and system for detecting the presence of subsurface objects within a medium is provided. In some embodiments, the imaging and detection system operates in a multistatic mode to collect radar return signals generated by an array of transceiver antenna pairs that is positioned across the surface and that travels down the surface. The imaging and detection system pre-processes the return signal to suppress certain undesirable effects. The imaging and detection system then generates synthetic aperture radar images from real aperture radar images generated from the pre-processed return signal. The imaging and detection system then post-processes the synthetic aperture radar images to improve detection of subsurface objects. The imaging and detection system identifies peaks in the energy levels of the post-processed image frame, which indicates the presence of a subsurface object.04-04-2013
