20090248978USB DATA STRIPING - A striping system and method for distributing a payload of data across a plurality of parallel USB cables from a source to a destination is described. The striping devices reside in the architecture of a source and destination connected by more than one standardized USB bus cable. The striping devices increase the bandwidth between the source and the destination by providing more lanes of data traffic and utilizing segmentation and reassembly to ensure that the data is split up and then reassembled correctly into the original stream at the destination. The striping devices allow for user determination of usability along with self diagnostics as to the source's and destination's ability to handle striping. Other embodiments are described.10-01-2009

20090208448Inhibition of angiogenesis - Cholesterol-uptake-blocking drugs inhibit angiogenesis and are useful to inhibit diseases perpetuated by angiogenesis. Cholesterol reduction with the use of the drugs increases the intratumoral level of thrombospondin-1, an angiogenesis inhibitor. Ezetimibe (Zetia®), a specific cholesterol-uptake blocking drug, also retards the growth of human tumors, most preferably in combination with low-cholesterol diet. The pharmacologic reduction in serum cholesterol retards prostate cancer growth by inhibiting tumor angiogenesis to combat the growth of prostatic tumors which are directly accelerated by hypercholesterolemia.08-20-2009

20090203996ULTRASOUND-IMAGING SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR A USER-GUIDED THREE-DIMENSIONAL VOLUME-SCAN SEQUENCE - An ultrasound-imaging system and method is provided that permits an operator to acquire an image of a volume-of-interest in a time critical fashion, that is capable of referencing the volume rendering to a standard two-dimensional imaging mode, and permits the operator to selectively choose a number of display-mode parameters that result in an operator directed view of the volume-of-interest. The ultrasound-imaging system comprises an input device configured to receive a plurality of imaging parameters and a controller in communication with the input device. The ultrasound-imaging system generates an operator-directed transmit-beam scan sequence in response to the imaging parameters and transmits a spatially modified transmit-beam scan sequence over a portion of the volume-scan range of the ultrasound-imaging system. Moreover, the ultrasound-imaging system provides the flexibility for an operator to direct a plurality of operator-configurable multi-dimensional views.08-13-2009

20110251487Apparatus and Methods for Intravascular Ultrasound Imaging and for Crossing Severe Vascular Occlusions - An intravascular ultrasound catheter system is provided and enables a simplified, economical technique for ultrasound visualization of a blood vessel. The catheter may include a park ablation system for crossing chronic total occlusions and severe stenoses. The catheter is advanceable and is oriented entirely under manual control of the clinician and the application of radiofrequency energy for spark erosion of the stenosis also is controlled manually by the clinician. The system enables the clinician to observe an ultrasound image sufficiently to determine where to orient the ablation electrode so as to reduce the risk of dissection or perforation of the blood vessel. The ultrasound image is generated in response to manual rotation of the catheter and the ablation spark is generated only when the physician is satisfied as to the orientation of the electrode within the vessel.10-13-2011

20110251258RNAI CONSTRUCTS AND USES THEREOF - The invention relates to improved double-stranded RNAi constructs (sometimes referred to as “solo-rxRNA”) and uses thereof. The construct comprises a structure formed in some aspects of the invention by two identical single-stranded polynucleotides, with the structure having two double-stranded stem regions (each having less than 21 base pairs) and a loop or bulge having about 4 to 11 nucleotides on each strand. The construct is resistant to cleavage by Dicer or other Dicer-like RNase III enzymes and is capable of being loaded into a RISC complex to effect RNA interference. In addition, the nucleotides of the present hairpin constructs may be modified to greatly enhance functionality, such as stability and specificity.10-13-2011
