Regulation of Protein Activity By Reversible Acetylation - This invention discloses the first cellular acetylated substrate protein of SIRT3, Acetyl-CoA synthetase 2 (AceCS2), which is a mitochondrial matrix protein. AceCS2 is reversibly acetylated at lysine 642 (Lys642) in the active site of the enzyme. The mitochondrial sirtuin SIRT3 interacts with AceCS2 and deacetylates Lys642 both in vitro and in vivo. Deacetylation of AceCS2 by SIRT3 activates the acetyl-CoA synthetase activity of AceCS2. Thus, a mammalian sirtuin directly controls the activity of a metabolic enzyme via reversible lysine acetylation. Modulators of the acetylation status or the activity of AceCS2 are useful for the treatment of pathological conditions, such as type II diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, hyperlipidemia, and obesity. | 03-05-2009

DRIVE UNIT FOR A HAIR CUTTING MACHINE - A drive unit for a hair cutting machine comprises a driving motor that includes a substantially U-shaped stator which has a first leg, a second leg, and at least one additional leg located between the first leg and the second leg, at least one field coil which can be disposed on the at least one additional leg, and an armature. Lateral air gap sections are formed between the first and second leg and the armature while central air gap sections are formed between the additional leg and the armature. The central air gap sections and the lateral air gap sections extend at an angle from a longitudinal axis. A first nose, which faces away from the additional leg, is arranged at the end of the first leg, while a notch, which faces the additional leg and corresponds to the first nose, is arranged on the second leg. | 12-09-2010
ATTACHMENT COMB FOR A HAIR CLIPPER - An attachment comb for a hair clipper includes a base portion constructed and arranged for releasably engaging the hair clipper, and a plurality of teeth extending from the base portion, each of the teeth including a body portion defined between an upper peripheral edge and a lower peripheral edge, a proximal end adjacent the base portion and a distal end opposite thereof, wherein the body portion includes at least one formation for retaining hair. | 06-23-2011

De novo enzymatic production of nucleic acid molecules - The present invention is related to a method for the manufacture of a nucleic acid molecule comprising the following steps: a) providing a first at least partially double-stranded oligonucleotide, whereby the oligonucleotide comprises a first and a second single-stranded overhang, b) providing a second at least partially double-stranded oligonucleotide, whereby the oligonucleotide comprises a recognition site for a first type IIS restriction enzyme which cuts outside its recognition site, a modification allowing the oligonucleotide to be coupled to a surface and a single-stranded overhang, c) ligating the first oligonucleotide and the second oligonucleotide via the first single-stranded overhang of the first oligonucleotide and the single-stranded overhang of the second oligonucleotide, generating a first ligation product, whereby the first ligation product comprises a single-stranded overhang essentially corresponding to the second single-stranded overhang of the first oligonucleotide, d) cutting the first ligation product with the first type II restriction enzyme thus releasing an elongated first at least partially double-stranded oligonucleotide having a first and a second single-stranded overhang, whereby the first single-stranded overhang is generated through the cutting of the restriction enzyme and whereby the second single-stranded overhang corresponds essentially to the second single-stranded overhang of the first at least partially double-stranded oligonucleotide, preferably the at least partially double-stranded oligonucleotide of step (a), and a truncated second at least partially double-stranded oligonucleotide; e) immobilising the truncated second at least partially double stranded oligonucleotide of step d), the unreacted second at least partially double-stranded oligonucleotide and/or the uncut first ligation product via the modification to a surface; f) optionally repeating steps a) to e), whereby the elongated first at least partially double-stranded oligonucleotide of step d) serves as the first at least partially double-stranded oligonucleotide in step a). | 12-03-2009

Absorbent Articles With Multiple Active Graphics - Absorbent articles are disclosed that have been printed with active graphics alone or in combination with permanent graphics. The active graphics may be used, for instance, as a wetness indicator on an absorbent article. In accordance with the present disclosure, the active graphics include at least one disappearing graphic and at least one appearing graphic. The disappearing graphic and appearing graphic allow for complete scene changes on the article and also allow for the illusion of movement of objects in the scene. | 06-28-2012

CLAMPS USED FOR INTERCONNECTING A BONE ANCHOR TO A ROD - The present invention relates to a clamp, and, more particularly, to a clamp for securing the position of a bone anchor with respect to a longitudinal rod, preferably for use in the spine. The clamp may include a housing, a rod clamping assembly, and a bone anchor clamping assembly. The clamp preferably enables the longitudinal axis of the rod to be offset or laterally displaced from the longitudinal axis of the bone anchor. The rod clamping assembly and the bone anchor clamping assembly are preferably moveably coupled to the housing in order to provide increased flexibility to better accommodate the location and geometry of the longitudinal rod and to better accommodate bone positioning. | 10-21-2010
METHODS OF SPINAL FIXATION AND INSTRUMENTATION - A method for performing spinal fixation and instrumentation. A first incision may be made through the skin and a passageway may be created to the spine. A screw may be inserted through the passageway and into a vertebrae. The screw may have a head portion including a channel. An insertion guide may be operable connected to the screw. The insertion guide may have first and second longitudinal slots. Additional screws may each be inserted through separate incisions or through the first incision. Insertion guides may be operably connected to a head portion of each screw. A sleeve may be positioned into one insertion guide in a first position to guide a rod through at least one other insertion guide. The sleeve may be rotated to a second position to allow the rod to move down the slots of the insertion guide(s) and into the head portion of the screw. | 06-23-2011
